Juniors Mary Sgroi and Victor Karwacinski recently qualified for the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in May! As a team, working with Dr. David Go (Trinity class of '97) at the University of Notre Dame, they studied water purification through the use of plasma and qualified for the Indiana State Science and Engineering Fair held in Indianapolis this past weekend. There, they earned Second Place overall for all juniors in the state, they won the US Stockholm Junior Water Prize, the Biotechnology Award of Excellence and an Excellence in Environmental Science Award, in addition to some cash prizes. Of the ten projects that qualified for the International Science and Engineering Fair, theirs was the only project from the northern Indiana region. Many thanks to Dr. David Go and graduate student Hernan Delgado for mentoring them through their research. Congratulations and good luck at the International Science Fair in Pittsburgh in May!
